I am a documentary photographe
r c
oncerned with the effects of time on human constructions within the
landscape. Subjects I
have recently been photographing are “lost towns” of
Iowa
(what remains of towns that have disappeared from current maps),
people and structural artifacts along the Fifth Principal Meridian
(an 1836 survey line in eastern
Iowa
), and stone megaliths in the
British Isles
(such as
Stonehenge
in
England
, but primarily more obscure sites).
I use large format cameras and black and white
film. I like to immerse
myself in a place, get the feel of it, and make images slowly.
Sitting under the capstone of a 4000-year-old dolmen in the
rain, in a pasture in
Northern Ireland
, wondering about past occurrences there, was a sublime moment for
me.
