Marjorie Hier

From selling a painting of a pigeon to designing majestic stained glass windows for churches, Marj Hier’s art career has encompassed a variety of media and styles, both representational and abstract.  She has been a professional artist in the Quad City area since the late sixties.  Educated all her life in the Midwest , her landscape work has been influenced by the rolling hills of Iowa , as well as the dramatic Colorado Mountains .  A strong interest in life drawing and portraiture has emerged in numerous works.  The artist has specialized in watercolor for most of her career but has also done intaglio printmaking and currently works in watercolor and pastel.  Marj has exhibited in many juried and invitational shows around the region.  In 1999, she was given the Harley Award for lifetime artistic achievement, from the Riverssance Art Fair.  Marj’s work is represented in many collections including the “Art in State Buildings Program,” where her work can be seen in the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and the collection of late actress Helen Hayes.
