Tricia Coulson

Stitches are how Tricia Coulson finally got into being an artist in the suburbs of Los Angeles; hand stitching doll clothes, embroidering tea towels, or cross stitching pictures.  This interest continued into machine stitching and the production of her own clothes.

Constructing her own clothes as an adolescent kept her occupied for many years.  It wasn’t until she returned to college, at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, after a fifteen year break that she took the artistic possibilities of fibers seriously.  Taking a surface design class her first semester, she realized that this was what she wanted to do.  She spent the next four years with a fevered passion that she never had for anything else before in her life.

Her own personal variation of textiles comes through patterning, piecing and embellishment.  The repetitious elements produce a rhythm that is a continual source of pleasure, derived from the physical motion of printing and the visual sensation of the repeated image.

She has been accepted into Craft National several times and has images published in Fiberart Design Books.

Now Tricia spends her time working full-time, creating her art work in LeClaire, Iowa.  She exhibits locally and nationally.
