Quad City Arts invites artists residing within a 250-mile radius of the Quad Cities to submit a proposal to create artwork for reproduction as an outdoor banner for display at 1815 2nd Avenue in the District of Rock Island. Five original artworks will be commissioned. Following selection and documentation, artists will retain ownership of the original artwork. Only 2D media will be considered.
This is a project created by Renaissance Rock Island to support local artists and enrich and celebrate the city of Rock Island. During proposal development, the artist must consider the following statement, “Art should express the artistic and recreational offerings of the Rock Island District, while honoring the history of the area and the Mississippi River.”
Artists are asked to submit a sampling of work, a design sketch and a proposal, prior to being granted the commission. The commissioned artwork will be 12” in height by 24” in width. Please note that artists will not be given preference for the full completion of the work of art, nor will they be compensated for their time or effort if they choose to fully execute the artwork before being granted the commission. In addition, the artist’s design may be subject to revision prior to the commission being awarded. This will be an open-ended competition with the potential to create more commissioned works in the future.
Email three clearly focused images of finished works representative of your artistic capabilities, one clear image of a design sketch for the commission, and a one paragraph proposal stating your concept behind your design sketch, to firstname.lastname@example.org by March 17, 2016. You may also submit an image of your actual 12″ x 24″ piece instead of a design sketch.
- Files must be saved as jpegs at 300-600 DPI
- Files must be saved as the title of the work, make sure your name does not appear with the images
In the body of the email include:
- Your name, address and phone
- A brief paragraph about your work
- A list of the three works including title, size and medium
You will receive a confirmation email once your images have been received. If you do not get a confirmation, try sending 1 email per image/attachment. Note: confirmations may not be sent on the weekend.
