Navigating and Exploring the Quad Cities' Public Murals

From the banks of the Mississippi River to the heart of every downtown, our region showcases a vibrant range of artistic expressions that transform public spaces and enrich how we experience our communities.

Exploring Murals in the Quad Cities

What is Public Art?
Public art is a powerful form of artistic expression that transforms everyday spaces into captivating and thought-provoking works of art. It often reflects the spirit of a community, offering residents and visitors a unique opportunity to connect with art in their daily lives. Examples of public art can range from classical sculptures in city squares to modern street art, such as murals and graffiti. The diversity of murals reflects the evolving nature of artistic expression and its ability to adapt to contemporary urban environments. Public art plays a significant role in shaping the cultural landscape of cities and regions and contributes to the well-being and identity of communities.

Murals in the Quad Cities
The Quad Cities area boasts an impressive collection of murals that celebrate its culture, history, and creativity. Take a closer look at the inspiring murals and public art pieces that brighten our community — from bold, large-scale works to hidden gems tucked along side streets.

Many of these pieces are part of the Metro Arts Mural Program, where talented local apprentices collaborate with professional artists each summer to design and paint vibrant scenes across the region. These murals not only showcase emerging talent but also reflect the stories, neighborhoods, and energy of the Quad Cities, turning once-blank walls into destinations that spark conversation and pride.

Below you’ll find a map highlighting more than 80 murals throughout our area. Click the icon in the upper-left corner of the interactive window to explore details about each artwork, its location, and the artists who brought it to life. If you’re especially interested in apprentice-created pieces, use the Metro Arts Apprenticeship Program Murals filter to see all of the murals produced through this dynamic program.
