Axiom Brass
Description
Axiom Brass curates concert programs to promote the education and awareness of living music, or music
by living composers, by pairing newer works with more traditional music to seamlessly connect the different
musical styles. With multimedia performances and live reactive sound-to-video effects, the ensemble
creates an engaging, immersive experience that ventures beyond the traditional boundaries of the concert
hall. Axiom's personable demeanor and intimate concert setting provides an environment for the audience
to feel connected to the performance with members of the ensemble discussing key listening points and
background information for each piece on the program. The only brass ensemble to ever win the Fischoff
Educator Award, Axiom creates custom-tailored workshops and residency activities for presenters and their
communities. The group's commitment to education and their interactive teaching style has led to
residencies at the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, as well as
being featured as ensemble-in-residence for the National Brass Symposium. Invited to host clinics and
performances at the Midwest Clinic in 2010 and 2015, Axiom will return to the country's largest educators
conference in 2020 for another set of clinics and a performance.

Quick Pitch
Axiom Brass is fully invested in and passionate about advocating for the future of classical music. The
most important components of maintaining and growing support for the art form are educating our youth
and developing relationships within our communities. Our residencies are not strictly for music students or
those already interested in music. We have created a program that engages young children, inspires
students outside of the music world to develop exciting collaborations, and empower the local community
to become more involved in the expansion of classical music. Axiom's mission is to leave a lasting
impression on the community that continues to resonate long after we have left.

Description of engagements / Outreach materials / examples
Each outreach engagement has a slightly different structure based on the topics being presented, but we
generally begin each engagement by performing 3-5 minute piece before moving into the subject matter
(interspersed with more music appropriate to the topic). For example, for our "The Art of Practicing"
masterclass, we will begin with a piece of music, and then begin to discuss our process for a productive and
efficient practice session, while asking our listeners to provide answers and insight into their practicing
process. For an open-lecture session about "What Is Music?", after a brief performance, we encourage
participants to share their experiences as we offer our view as a professional ensemble into what makes
music special and why it is important. For education concerts for younger students, we tend to play more
music to keep them engaged and interested, while introducing interactive activities about how to create a
sound on a brass instrument, what each instrument is, and how to recognize melody, harmony, and rhythm.

Dan Tepfer
Description
One of his generation’s extraordinary talents, Dan Tepfer has earned an international reputation as a pianist
composer of wide-ranging ambition. Tepfer has performed around the world with some of the leading lights
in jazz and classical music; he has also crafted a discography striking for its breadth and depth, encompassing
probing solo improvisation and intimate duets, as well as trio albums rich in their rhythmic verve, melodic
allure and the leader’s keen-eared taste in songs no matter the genre. The New York Times has said about
Tepfer: “He has a wide-open sensibility, as tuned into Bach and Björk as to Monk and Wayne Shorter.”
Tepfer earned global acclaim for his Sunnyside album Goldberg Variations / Variations of 2011, a disc that
sees him performing J.S. Bach’s masterpiece as well as improvising upon it — to “elegant, thoughtful and
thrilling” effect (New York magazine). The pianist’s latest trio disc, Eleven Cages (Sunnyside, 2017), features
him ranging alongside bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Nate Wood from hook-heavy originals to a
Gershwin standard to a cover of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”. The UK’s Jazzwise described the album as “one
of the very best essays in contemporary piano-trio jazz you’ll hear.” Decade (Verve, 2018) — Tepfer’s second
duo release with saxophone icon Lee Konitz — was praised by DownBeat for “its air of life-affirming
creativity, with virtually every gesture speaking to the present rather than the past.” Tepfer’s newest album,
Natural Machines, stands as one of his most ingeniously forward-minded yet. This solo project five years in
the making finds him exploring in real time — via the Yamaha Disklavier — the intersection between science
and art, between coding and improvisation, between digital algorithms and the rhythms of the heart.
In recent years, Tepfer has collaborated in duo events not only with Konitz but with vocal sensation Cécile
McLorin Salvant, alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón, multi-reed player Ben Wendel and drummer Leon Parker.
That’s not to mention touring in the bands of such divergent artists as sax titan Pharoah Sanders and
soprano star Renée Fleming, as well as performing his classical piano quintet Solar Spiral alongside the
Avalon String Quartet and the Escher String Quartet. He has played Bach concertos in tandem with lauded
classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein and worked with avant-garde choreographer María Muñoz.

Description of engagements / Outreach materials / examples
If there is a piano available, I start by performing some music, then use what I just played as the starting
point for a discussion about the forces that form the underpinning of music. I’m particularly interested in
the intersection of intuition and formal rules; this is an idea that can be expressed at many levels, graspable
by even small children at a rudimentary level (examples for children include my asking them for thematic
material — short melodies — and root notes for harmonic structure, plus a general emotional mood, and
showing them how these can be combined to make a piece), and ripe for discussion at a deeper level with
adults and even experts in the field.
If there’s no piano available, I would start by showing a short video of myself performing, either from my
video album Natural Machines, a live performance of my Goldberg Variations / Variation project, or of my
jazz piano trio. All of these can serve as starting points to address the topics above.

Eleanor Dubinsky Quartet
DESCRIPTION
Eleanor Dubinsky is “a multilingual musician who can capture the emotions and soul of a community in a
song.” (NPR Weekend Edition). A vocalist, guitarist and cellist, Eleanor Dubinsky's music lives at the tender
edge where jazz, world and pop sensibilities meet emotionally forthright songwriting. Hailing from St. Louis,
MO and based in NYC, her sound reflects and celebrates both her mid-western roots and the formative time
she has spent in South America, Western and Central Europe, Portugal and Cape Verde. Singing in English,
French, Spanish and Portuguese, Eleanor and her multi-faceted band bring linguistic and cultural fluency to
dynamic compositions that explore the fragile links between human emotions and responsibility. In the
words of journalist Tom Pryor, expect "a joyous, uplifting and deeply generous performance...this is music
as medicine for your soul."
Eleanor has made many festival appearances including Lincoln Center's Boro Linc: La Casita, Philadelphia
International Festival For The Arts at the Kimmel Center, Levitt At The Falls (Sioux Falls, SD), 4 + 4 Days In
Motion Festival in Prague and the Puerto Morelos Music Festival (Mexico), and has performed at nationally
recognized venues. She has also performed in Costa Rica, Portugal, France, Guatemala, Cape Verde, Greece,
the Czech Republic, Uruguay and Senegal, collaborating with notable artists including Les Freres Guisse
(Senegal), Dino D’Santiago (Portugal/Cape Verde) and El David Aguilar (MX). Eleanor’s music has been
featured on MTV, Lifetime and Animal Planet, ads for American Express and on NPR.
At the center of Eleanor’s artistic mission is using music as a means for empowerment, social change and
generating dialogue. As such, she partners with non-profit organizations Feel The Music!, through which she
teaches songwriting and performs for pediatric oncology patients at NY Presbyterian Hospital, and
ArteAmor, through which she facilitates songwriting workshops with adolescent survivors of abuse and
trafficking in Costa Rica.
In 2020-21 Eleanor will partner with Montefiore Medical Center’s Terra Firma program, a nationallyrecognized
medical-legal partnership in the Bronx that provides medical care, mental health, advocacy and
legal services to Unaccompanied Immigrant Children (UIC) with the mission of empowering them to develop
resilience, attain stability and reach their full potential. As part of Terra Firma’s enrichment programming,
Eleanor will lead ten adolescent participants in Our Voices, Our Songs, a songwriting and recording initiative
in which students compose, co-produce and record a new album of original songs born from stories of their
life experiences. Our Voices, Our Songs is supported by the Gibney Dance Moving Toward Justice Cohort, a
ten-month program that selects six artists to develop high potential projects that use art as a tool for
activism and social impact.

DESCRIPTION OF ENGAGEMENTS / OUTREACH MATERIALS / EXAMPLES
In addition to the outreach description document provided, Eleanor is working on a study guide that will be
completed by this summer. A Gdrive link to the working document, so you can see an overview of the study
guide is here: (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1j6risYMY414XqOhyBB7fiEdfAEsyNPJr)
Eleanor's outreach may begin with a song to get everyone loosened up (for larger groups) and to help
introduce participants to one another (if group is intimate enough). She will then go into a brief history of
her background and education in music before diving into the topic or performance. Workshops and
outreach performances are generally very collaborative and incorporate audience participation and
suggestions to create a song "on the spot" that represents the mindset, make-up and topics of importance
to those in attendance. Both workshops and performances generally culminate in the performance of the
final piece.

Description of engagements / Outreach materials / examples
Our “Candlelight Series” concerts in Chicago, IL, featuring the string quartets of Beethoven, have been a
notable example of how the Euclid Quartet captures general audiences by providing a sensory experience
that juxtaposes sound, sublimity, and spectacle. On a stage dimly lit only by candles, the quartet offers a
“Beethoven Beer-flight” experience that places a spotlight on each gem in the Beethoven String Quartet
repertoire that offers a bold flavor of the composer’s early style, and introducing each selection to be
performed in an interactive format. From the outset of the show, audiences are drawn in to a special and
engaging place. The combination of the intimate ambiance created, the informative and engaging
introductions, and the narrative told through the music itself delivers an enriching cultural experience that
surpasses a traditional classical concert experience.

DESCRIPTION OF ENGAGEMENTS / OUTREACH MATERIALS / EXAMPLES
Farah has many different outreach opportunities available, from simpler 1-hour lecture/demo series as
outlined in Seminar Brief, to choral work intensives with transcripts provided in advance, zoom meetings
with directors, and in-person rehearsals 2-3 days prior to public performances. If discussing a more
standard, multi-locale 1-2 hour community engagement, this may look more like a brief artist intro, followed
by a song, then a more in-depth discussion of her work and humanitarian efforts through music. This could
be followed by more music with a Q&A session, a specific instrumental or vocal demo/intro, or by special
training if that is suitable for the audience and more of a workshop setting. Farah and her team are
extremely flexible and easy to work with. They love sharing their music, knowledge and stories. Farah has 2
mini-residencies booked in Minnesota in 20-21: November 2020 in Rochester, MN for a special choral
collaboration; Red Wing, MN for March 2021 for a public concert and several outreach activities yet to be
determined. We would certainly welcome if anyone from Quad City Arts would be interested in discussing
these mini-residencies in detail or would like to attend the capstone concert(s).

QUICK PITCH
Heartland Productions' show, "A DIY Adventure," uses music and the medium of opera to teach K-5 state
Language Arts standards. Opera allows students to learn visually, aurally, and kinesthetically; students then
have a better understanding of the information being taught and in turn will achieve greater student
achievement. Using opera also enriches and helps to develop skills such as creative thinking,
communication, teamwork and leadership. Active participation and creativity create a deeper understanding
of the K-5 Language Arts standards.
Two (2) vocal artists and one (1) pianist perform a series of operatic selections (solos and duets) in order
to expose young students to music, opera, and foreign language, as well as teach students about the
elements of a story and what makes a “good” story (setting, characters, problems and solutions, as well as
sequencing the events of a story). Throughout the performance, students will learn songs related to all of
the above topics as well as songs about emotions and details. The students will sing, act and dance (all
elements of good opera stories) right along with the performers in order to aid in their retention of the
elements discussed.

DESCRIPTION OF ENGAGEMENTS / OUTREACH MATERIALS / EXAMPLES
Students will remember the first experiences they have at the theater for the rest of their lives. Heartland
Productions’ outreach performances allow students not only to watch theater, but also to create, perform,
and sing on stage with the support of professional musicians. As performers ourselves, we bring the world
of opera right into the schools. Students see stories come to life right in front of their eyes over the course
of just one hour! We show them how fun theater can be, how joyous writing an original story and composing
music can be, and how fulfilling working with others to perform can be. We engage students by having them
sing, act out dialogue and move their bodies.
The session begins with the "Opera Song," in which we "Sing, Dance and Act to tell a story!" Next, we
introduce and review two important elements of any story by singing the "Setting Song" and "Character
Song" with students. These three songs are pre-recorded and distributed with the study guide to teachers so
they can introduce them to students in their classes, but we will also help the students gain in confidence
as they sing together during our session. Each of these songs uses voice, facial expression, and body
language to engage students and help them remember the words of the songs and the ideas introduced.
Throughout the remainder of the session, using those songs as guidelines, we work with students to create
a story from beginning to end. Together with the children, we make choices about character, emotion,
action, and problem solving. The final performance celebrates the students’ creativity and hard work when
Heartland’s teaching artists bring their original story to life on stage.

QUICK PITCH
Hub New Music can provide both visionary concert programming and multifaceted educational outreach to
the Quad City community. Audiences will have the chance to hear the cutting-edge of classical music
through meticulously curated thematic programming that offers an accessible perspective on contemporary
repertoire. Works on an HNM program are often written for the ensemble, giving us a deep connection to
each piece. The group shares this connection with our repertoire both in performance and in preperformance
discussions that immerse audiences in our artistic process. Our educational work takes our
day-to-day professional activities, and translates them into programs that provide a basis of knowledge in

DESCRIPTION OF ENGAGEMENTS / OUTREACH MATERIALS / EXAMPLES
Hub New Music usually begins a school workshop or lecture with a performance of a short work, usually
about 7-8 minutes, to serve as a musical introduction to the ensemble. From there it transitions into the
content of the educational workshop by projecting the associated slideshow, asking some preliminary
questions related to the lecture ( i.e. audience’s field of study, brief survey of past commissioning or
entrepreneurial projects, etc.). After the lecture, the ensemble opens the floor for Q&A.
In previous community outreach performances, the ensemble introduced itself to the audience, talked about
its mission as a contemporary music ensemble, and told stories of its connection to the programmed
repertoire before performing. These anecdotes are often about HNM’s experiences working with the
composer, guide audiences on what to listen for in the piece, and often include brief musical excerpts to
introduce the audience to the composer's sound world before a complete performance. After the
performance, the ensemble asks the audience what their thoughts were to open up a dialogue about the
work.

QUICK PITCH
Who has seen and experienced an acoustic harp and an electric harp on stage? Together with a vocalist,
Jacqueline brings a wide variety of music: from everything one would expect from a harp to the creation of
pop arrangements and original music through improvisation and the use of technology with looping and
electronic effects. It's like nothing your audience will have heard before. It's accessible, powerful, unusual,
highly skilled and sensitive music making. Workshops focus on unveiling the harps, showing how they work
(including the electronics), and then working with attendees to find their own creative voices.
Jacqueline's product showcases her instruments, her skill, musicianship and creativity. There is something
for everyone. It's fun, engaging, and encourages others to find their own creative voices.

DESCRIPTION OF ENGAGEMENTS / OUTREACH MATERIALS / EXAMPLES
This really depends on the size of the group and the focus of the workshop.
An improvisation/songwriting/creativity class is more interactive. I usually start with asking
students/attendees to introduce themselves and say what brings them joy. I do this to create a more
intimate and 'safe' place to create. I then start them on a series of creativity games, either alone or in small
groups, that are timed. I then open a discussion about what the games inspired.
If the workshop is more focussed on the harps I play, I'll start with a performance of something, then a
demonstration of the acoustic pedal harp, then move on to the electric harp. This part is where I get to
explain/demonstrate the electronics I use as well as looping. The harp is such a mysterious instrument to
most people so I love to open up the session for Q & A.
These are some of the workshop/clinic/masterclass highlights from the last couple of years. I will email

Josh Kohn from Creative Alliance in Baltimore on working with Las Cafeteras:
In Baltimore, Las Cafeteras have developed and retained a devoted audience through showmanship,
creativity, and community engagement like I have never seen before. They don’t merely arrive to perform,
instead, radiate a magnetic presence producing untold magical moments of community-driven artistic
action. I have seen them walk our neighborhood and make friends and reach beyond the stage, literally and
metaphorically, to make life-long fans. A Las Cafeteras show is more than a concert, it is the very essence
of community.”

understands at least one of those languages.” Hector Flores, Las Cafeteras

band's unique musical fusion marries their strong Scandinavian roots and elements of jazz with the vibrant
dance music and klezmer traditions of eastern Europe. From the contemplative ambiance of Nordic
snowscapes to the lively weddings of Romania, the music of Mames Babegenush exudes a sense of both
poignant melancholy and irresistibly danceable exuberance. Since forming in Copenhagen in 2004, the sixpiece
group has dazzled audiences and critics alike with their fresh vision and musical gumption,
establishing themselves as one of Europe's premiere klezmer-jazz ensembles. Their long list of awards
includes the Danish Music Award for Best World Album of The Year and three prizes awarded by the
prestigious International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam, including the Jury and Audience Prizes.
Quick Pitch
Mames Babgenush are entirely unique in the klezmer and world music scene, as they infuse Nordic
traditional music and jazz into traditional klezmer. Their combination of original compositions and new
arrangements of traditional songs, ushers klezmer into the 21st century in a way that respects its roots but
also excites younger listeners. This band represents a true melting pot of cultures and ideas: Scandinavia
meets Eastern Europe, jazz meets world music, the new blends with the old. Their work tells the story of
how a group of teenage friends discovered old klezmer recordings, fell in love with the music and became
inspired to continue adding to that important and exciting body of work for the next 16 years. Their story,
like their music is unique and crosses cultures to prove yet again that music is a universal language, and
one that can get us all on our feet and dancing. In short, I think they contribute an amazing story from
across the Atlantic and music that is going to make everyone want to jump up and celebrate life.

Description of engagements / Outreach materials / examples
Between 2013 and 2014, Mames Babegenush performed and led workshops at over 100 schools in
Denmark. They prepared a teacher's guide, which is attached in the documentation section (sorry, we only
have it in Danish for now) and not much video of quality was taken, but we do have the short video above
that shows the children playing with one of the band's instruments after the show.
Their Danish school tour focused 50% on the band as musicians and 50% on klezmer as a musical genre.
The part about the band include each member's individual background and why they started playing
instruments, how the band met, how the band members started playing music together.
The part about klezmer addresses two main points: 1) historical background of traditional klezmer (and
Eastern European traditional music), how it started and how it developed, what it was used for and what it
sounded like 2) how the music moved and spread through the world; Jews, nomads traveling from town
(shtetl) to town, country to country, and then around 1900 from Europe to North and South America. Being
passed on from one generation to the next by family bands, who interacted with local musicians and
adopted certain folk traditions from different countries and cultures.
This is what the band has done in the past, but if there are specific ideas or themes Quad City Arts would be
interested in having us include, we're open to discussing and reworking. Please know that audiences are
always encouraged to dance! And kids are invited to come see the instruments afterward.

Description
I currently serve on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music as a Collaborative Pianist, and I am Music
Director of the historic First Baptist Church of Philadelphia. I have performed in solo and chamber recitals
throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Recently, I appeared as cohost/collaborative pianist on the nationally
broadcasted program NPR'S From The Top. I am a frequent soloist with many major orchestras including
the New Jersey Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Memphis Symphony and Knoxville Symphony. Until
recently, I was scheduled to perform Florence Price's Concerto in One Movement with the New York Youth
Symphony in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium on May 24. Unfortunately, the concert was cancelled due to
the current pandemic. Most recently, I served on the faculty of Sphinx Performance Academy during their
inaugural year at The Juilliard School.
I have given masterclasses/performances at many colleges and universities including the University of
Colorado- Pueblo, Temple University, Florida A&M University and Prairie View A&M University. In addition, I
have given interactive performances at unique and special venues such as the Governor Morehead School
for the Blind in Raleigh, NC. During one entire summer, I volunteered to give piano lessons to children
housed, along with their mothers, at a residence for abused women with children. I have also performed
interactive concerts for the Boys and Girls Club in Geneva, NY.
Last May, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra named me as its MAC (Multicultural Awareness Council)
Innovator. I performed with members of the Orchestra, and then spent a week doing outreach at various
elementary schools; performing at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital; and visiting the Peaslee Neighborhood
Center, a community-based center where participatory education and creative expression is encouraged. I
performed a short program there, followed by a one-hour Masterclass with students.

Quick Pitch
I have always been interested in creating opportunities for music education in a variety of communities, and
as such, I was the choir director for three years with Play On Philly, an organization that provides
underserved youth in Philadelphia a transformative music experience. In addition, I served as one of three
Curtis Institute of Music inaugural fellows of ArtistYear where I started my own program in an inner-city
charter school giving peer mentorship opportunities for 8th and 1st graders through the study of group
piano. I am a dedicated piano teacher and consider myself a mentor to my students as well. While attending
the Cleveland Institute of Music, I took part in their outreach program where music students visited and
performed concerts at local nursing homes. I concertize regularly and seek out opportunities to connect
with the community outside of the concert hall as much as possible.

Description of engagements / Outreach materials / examples
I start off each class by first engaging with the students. I introduce myself as a concert pianist and share
with them what it means to be a concert pianist. This includes the many hours of practice/preparation,
travel, and the ability to connect with many different types of people all over the world. I also mention that I
am an avid educator and that it is a passion of mine to work with youth of all ages wherever I concertize.
I usually start by performing something short and exciting to grab their attention. Most recently, I led with
the first movement of Enrique Granados' Goyescas which is inspired by paintings of Francisco Goya. After
performing this movement, I told the students the very dramatic and intriguing story behind these paintings.
I am always looking for ways to interact with my audience so I brought this piece to life by inviting some of
the participants onto the stage to act out "scenes" from the paintings with props I provided while I played
through the various sections.

Audiences are introduced to each brass instrument in the quintet, and learn the Building Blocks of Music.
Topics to be presented are tone, rhythm, melody, harmony, variations, the harmonic series, and how it all fits
together to create music. There will be a chance for audience participation, as well as time for questions.
New Chicago Brass has been working to develop this specific type of community programming, where we
bring a smaller ensemble in to perform shows for various age groups. The recent pandemic has derailed all
of our plans for creating video or audio content to promote this program. We apologize for the
inconvenience this causes, but we would be more than happy to speak to the committee more about our
past work, and our plans for this residency.

Quinteto Latino
Description
Quinteto Latino is a San Francisco Bay Area wind quintet whose mission is to disrupt racial and economic
disparities within the classical music field by championing past, present, and future contributions by Latinx
composers and musicians. Founded in 2004 by French horn player Armando Castellano, this unique
ensemble expands the boundaries of a classical music tradition, commonly perceived as predominantly
Euro-American through performing works exclusively by Latino composers.
Through our varied and innovative work in venues both traditional and nontraditional, we strive to make this
music available, relevant, and inspiring to audiences across cultural, class, and ethnic lines. In addition, we
use our organization as a tool to advocate on behalf of Latino composers and classical musicians through
mentoring, commissioning, hiring and being a voice, both regionally and nationally, for issues around
diversity and classical music.
Quinteto Latino’s programs include curating music and partnerships with other organizations,
commissioning works by living contemporary Latin American and Latinx American composers, and
engaging culturally and economically diverse audiences in communities of color. Through Seminario and
other outreach, Quinteto Latino mentors musicians and organizations to raise awareness and address
ongoing racial and economic disparities.
Quinteto Latino’s performance season features ten concerts and runs each September through June.
Programs range from the overtly folkloric to high modernism, featuring new works by rising stars composed
specifically for the ensemble. The concerts expose classical chamber music audiences to more diverse
composers while expanding Latinx audiences’ preconceived thoughts and notions of Latinx music.

TSQ provides a variety of engagement formats. In educational or lecture formats the quartet aims to cover a
specific topic, addressing it through specific musical selections and comments from stage. These topics
can include non-verbal communication, the roles of the string quartet, and the tools composers use to
compose for our ensemble. We have extensive experience presenting to students of all ages, collaborating
with young musicians, and lecturing collegiate students in both musical and non-musical subjects. Please
see our Project Pamphlet for more details.
We begin with a short introductory work (this season has featured Florence Price's "Shortnin' Bread") before
introducing the members of the ensemble. We then outline the concept of the performance, with each
member presenting a particular facet of the subject. I have included an outline of an educational workshop
in this application called "How to Write a String Quartet" that gives a sense of what an educational program
can look like.

Quick Pitch
Authentic Vietnamese traditional music and traditions through the lens of contemporary music.
Description of engagements / Outreach materials / examples
My presentation always has a good balance of new/old, original/reimaged, traditional/modern, deep
thinking/entertained materials. The purpose of my presentation is to help people learn about new
culture/messages/traditions in the most open-minded, informative and joyful ways.
For the first 5-7 minutes, we have ice-breaker activities. For young age groups, it can be making movements
with Vietnamese traditional music. For high-school students, it can be cultural questions to trigger their
curiosity and pride about knowledge that they might have learnt through food or history classes. For college
students and adults, it can be a beautiful traditional song from Vietnam to put audiences into a different
world that they might dream of visiting.
After that, I normally take my audiences on a journey to Vietnam through the historical figures, traditional
symbols, customs, or even food and cooking that lie behind the symbols on the instruments.
During the presentation, I will provide hands-on activities that audiences can play on small Vietnamese
traditional percussion, or learn how to sing a traditional tune, or say a few words in Vietnamese, or imitate
the sound of my instruments.
There will be time for Q&A at the end if it is requested. Audiences also are welcomed to try to play on my
instruments.
