Quad City Arts is hosting its first-ever CHALK ART FEST on August 25-26 as part of Downtown Davenport’s Alternating Currents Festival, that will celebrate the community’s creativity in music, film, comedy and art.
The festival, based on SXSW, will feature a variety of bands, comedians, and other art forms in various locations from shops, to bars, to theaters. Downtown will be a destination for those who love music, art, food, and culture during this weekend.
Chalk artists will compete for $1,500 in cash prizes! The Chalk Art Fest will also feature a large community art piece. For a $10 donation, participants will be provided with a set of chalk to create a small portion of a larger image. When finished, the larger piece will come to life as a complete work of art! Plus, participants get to keep their chalk. Take it home and create a masterpiece on your street!
The Chalk Art Fest is a free, family-friendly event that is open to the public.
We have many opportunities for volunteers to help make the Chalk Art Fest a success.

-Artists may create original works or reproductions of other works. If you are creating a reproduction of a well-known masterpiece (or other non-original piece), you must credit the original artist and title in a visible location next to your artwork.
-Artists may bring their own chalk. All chalk must be water-based. No paint, crayon, ink, fixatives, or other permanent products may be applied to the pavement.
-Your area will be assigned to you by Quad City Arts staff.
-The art must be suitable for public and family viewing. No nudity, political statements, or objectionable material is allowed. No commercial or political advertisements are allowed. Quad City Arts reserves the right to make this judgment at any point in the process.
-Respect your fellow artists. Do not walk on their paintings or have open beverage containers that might spill on the artwork. Keep your supplies contained in your space.
-No boom boxes or loud music.
-Artists’ appearance and clothing should be suitable for a family-friendly, public gathering.
-Please return your unused chalk to Quad City Arts.
-Onlookers are an important part of this public festival. Please interact with the public!
-While you provide the artwork, sponsors provide the financial support that makes the festival possible. As a sign of appreciation to our sponsors, a sponsor’s name may appear near your chalk art area. You may enhance it by drawing a frame around it, or otherwise integrating it into your design. However, it must always remain visible, unobstructed, and clean throughout the length of the festival.
