Paintings by Suzanne anderson

"I was born in Davenport, Iowa where I lived until I married.  As a young bride and mother, I spent hours at the kitchen table painting, drawing, and doing other art projects with my young son.  In time our family grew to include 2 boys and a girl.  As the children grew up and needed me less, I decided to complete my education.  I started at Blackhawk College where I took a pottery class and thoroughly enjoyed it, but realized it was not my strong suit and decided to focus on the world of academics.  After Blackhawk, I transferred my credits to Augustana College where I graduated with a degree in Business and Psychology.  While at Augustana, I enrolled in a drawing class.  I felt totally out of my league, but I enjoyed the class and learned to just enjoy working with various mediums.

After years of working full time, I began to think about my goals after retirement.   I had a small but very important list: 1.  Take a watercolor class.  2.  Learn a foreign language.  3.  Play golf.  I have accomplished all my goals.  The Figge offers many art classes, and I took numerous painting classes and enjoyed each one, as well as the instructors.  One of the instructors was Ralph Lacarrino.  Ralph encouraged me to continue painting and to go bigger.  I enjoyed many hours of classes with Ralph and his art family in his studio.  His influence is apparent in my work.  One day Ralph filled my pallet with many different colors of paint and my world of color opened up.  He encouraged me to try acrylics and that was another turning point in my work.  I worked bigger and bigger, while creating brilliant tropically colored paintings. They come to life and tell a story.  People, animals, and symbols are all part of the story they tell.

I also love the Art Deco era.  I enjoyed using watercolors to paint women from that era. I paint at home and love making cards for my family and friends.  Art and painting have been a wonderful part of my life."
