Wildlife drawings by Matt Jagitsch

Matt Jagitsch was raised in Jacksonville IL.  He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1988 and went on to Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield for one year before transferring to Eastern Illinois University as an art major and art history minor.  After college, art began to fall by the wayside as he and his wife married, started a family and his career went in a non-artrelated direction. Over the next 28 years, art was virtually nonexistent for Matt.  During Covid shutdowns in February of 2021, he began to try his hand at art, at the urging of his wife.  Reverse drawing, or white pencil on black paper, quickly became his medium of choice.  In the past year and a half, he’s created over 100 pieces and begun to show throughout northern Illinois.  Past exhibits and fairs include Best in Show at the 73rd Annual Phidian Art Show in Dixon IL, Best in Show at the 72nd Annual Grand Detour Art Fair at The Historic John Deere Home, exhibitions in Dixon IL, the Art Center of Highland Park, The Hangar Art Company in Bloomington IL, Artzilla of Marengo IL, The Old Town Art Fair in Chicago, and a solo show at NCIArtworks in Peru IL.  He will be featured at the McLean County Art Center’s Armstrong Gallery in Bloomington IL from January 13-February 24th, 2023.  He currently resides in Sterling IL with his wife Michelle, youngest son Connor and two dogs. Molly the English Pointer and Stella the Great Dane. He and his wife have two older sons, Nathan of Chicago, and Brandon (Kristin) of Sterling and is an excited new grandfather to Isabella.

Rock Island Gallery

The Quad City Arts Gallery is home to an exhibition space located on the first floor. The building, which was once a turn-of-the-century department store, features hardwood floors, and a  fourteen foot-high ceiling. The exhibition space is more than 1,500 sq. ft., a perfect space to showcase large paintings, sculptures and enjoy an occasional performance.
